これらの再生木材を使用した鉛筆は、トンボの「木ものがたり」シリーズ。他の製造工程で出た端材を活用して作られています。回収された杉の短い端材を、精巧なフィンガージョイント技法で縁と縁を接合し、ジグザグの継ぎ目を隠さずに見せる薄い透明ラッカーで仕上げています。再生材のみで構成された、クリーンでミニマルな木目模様が特徴です。
赤いグラファイト芯も再生材で、木材と同じ副産物から粉砕されて作られています。朱色（しゅいろ）は、日本の編集・校正の伝統で長く使われてきた赤みがかったオレンジ色で、細くきれいな芯先に削れます。1992年、木ものがたりは日本で初めて、持続可能な製造に対して国の公式エコマーク認証を取得した鉛筆シリーズとなり、以来その認定を維持し続けています。

The fused seams are actually pretty subtle once you start writing—I keep looking at them because it’s such a clever way to reuse offcuts. The cedar smells amazing and the vermilion red is a rich, warm shade that stands out on my desk.
I wasn’t sure how the fused cedar seams would feel in hand, but they’re invisible when you write—the wood is smooth and the vermilion color is honestly gorgeous. They sharpen to a fine point without snapping, which is more than I can say for most pencils these days.
The fusion of salvaged cedar strips gives each pencil a subtle grain shift that makes every one feel like a tiny, unique sculpture. They sharpen cleanly without splintering, and the vermilion red is rich enough to make my notes pop without bleeding through the page.
