Each number — 1 through 12, rendered without a mold — comes from the plate on a hotel room door in a foreign country, from the era when keeping track of things was still done by hand. Struck in solid brass, with a transparent coating that holds the warm golden tone and keeps the metal from marking whatever it touches. Clip them to notebooks, bookmarks, document tabs, envelopes — a numbered organizing system that carries a small, specific history.
