SoSo Japanese Wall Clock: Orange

SoSo Japanese Wall Clock: Orange - Main image

Category: The Desktop

The SoSo clock draws from the visual vocabulary of early modernism — bold color, clean geometry, numerals gathered close to center with a generous margin breathing around them — and softens it just enough for the spaces we live in. The orange here isn't a provocation. It's warm-spectrum, quietly saturated, the kind of color that reads as cheerful without demanding attention. The pale plywood rim tempers it with its own natural warmth, grounding with an ease that feels equally at home in a kitchen, a studio, or an office.

Designed by Awatsuji — an all female Tokyo studio founded by sisters Misa and Maki Awatsuji — and made by Takata Lemnos, a Japanese manufacturer whose roots in careful craft go back to the 1970s and whose work has earned multiple Good Design Awards.

The numerals sitting so close to the center with that wide empty margin makes the time readable from across the room, and the matte orange finish catches the morning light beautifully. It's quietly modern without trying too hard, exactly what my desk needed.

That orange is so bold and cheerful it makes my desk feel like a tiny gallery. The numerals sitting close to the center with all that breathing room around them looks even better in person than in the photos, and it keeps perfect time.

The wide margin between those clean numerals and the edge gives it this calm, gallery-like presence on my desk; the orange is a warm pop but somehow not loud. It’s become the first thing my eyes settle on when I sit down to work.
