Het rood valt als eerste op. In combinatie met dit sobere ontwerp — laag, cilindrisch, met drie horizontale openingen die het licht in zachte, gelaagde banen over een bureau of nachtkastje verspreiden — wordt die verzadiging een statement, niet zomaar een afwerking. Handgemaakt in de studio van Misewell in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, van steengoed dat ondanks het glazuur nog iets aards behoudt.

Het wit is een heel ander verhaal. Waar het rood aankondigt, stapelt het wit zich op — het glazuur vangt het licht langs de rand, de sleuven werpen zachte schaduwen op zichzelf. Dit is het soort keramische tafellamp dat een kamer beloont die al aandachtig is.
